Ashley Davis
Artist Statement
I would like to consider my work as a form of visual storytelling. From early on, I was fascinated with the influence of fictional stories, how they use even the most imaginative worlds to better reflect upon our own. When I create I approach it much like writing a story, I ask who are these characters, what is the setting, and what kind of story am I trying to tell. As an illustrator, many of my drawings and paintings often take a look at the human condition through the nature of fantasy. Through fantasy, I aim to create visually impactful and entertaining narratives that explore introspective themes such as identity, growth, and connection. In order to do so, I often alternate between digital and traditional mediums to keep in mind how color and texture come into play with the expression of a piece. Above all else, I hope that my work encourages empathy and creative curiosity to ask oneself what story they have to share.
