Elizabeth Suárez-Montero
Artist Statement
The vagina as a subject and a symbol has a long history of associations that are contrary to our contemporary ideologies as a sexualized obsession. My work embraces the beauty of the female body by utilizing these associations and ideologies. I directly challenge the social taboo associated with the vagina with my use of non-traditional, monochromatic colors. The colors allow the viewer to observe the imagery with a subjective mind, rather than an objective one.
