Erica Danley
Artist Biography & Statement
I began drawing, painting, and sculpting as a young child. I recently found the pleasure of making puppets in 2014, after making toys and games for my second grade classroom. I have always found puppetry enchanting, through the development of imaginative characters and worlds that can be achieved through set building, design, and performance.
I was raised on television shows like Pee Wee’s Playhouse, Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood, Fraggle Rock, and Sesame Street. These programs instilled a sense of wonder and imagination, along with important lessons in fairness and social justice, that I continue to integrate into my art and work as an early childhood teacher.
Through the creation and imagination of puppets, people (no matter what age) can access a world beyond the struggles of our own realities to foster joy, social consciousness, and reflection on our own daily life interactions.
