Keith Wolfe
Artist Statement
Earlier in my life, I studied art at the University of Texas San Antonio. I left these studies to pursue a different path and career. I never stopped being an artist, and I have recently begun working as an abstract artist in the Oklahoma City area. I primarily work with acrylic media.
My inspiration comes from both the natural and manufactured world around us, and my work represents an abstraction of the patterns, values, and rhythm we interact with every day, but do not always perceive. I have a technical background, but I also appreciate the beauty of our world and universe.
That said, my work is not intended to represent any one thing. One of my great joys relating to my work is hearing about what others see within a piece. Each interpretation is different according to the individual, but no interpretation is wrong.
When I begin a piece, I may have a loose idea of what I intend to create and the palette from which to create it. However, I often let the canvas speak to me as I work. One brush stroke may take the piece into a different direction that demands exploration. Another stroke may be an extension of that idea or take me someplace else entirely.
As a result, my work does not always end up where I expect it go, but I am comfortable that piece ends up where it is supposed to be.
