Lance P. Newsom
Artist Biography
Oklahoma City resident and artist, Lance P. Newsom is intent on taking his work to the next level. His first photograph, at the age of 6, was part of a school art project and was an abstract image of a rolled-up chain link fence on the playground. That was the beginning of a life-long love affair with photography, and over the last few years he has focused on honing not only his skill in traditional photography styles, but also in creating his unique style of emotionally charged abstract/impressionist work. Lance ultimately attempts to tell stories through his work, while also leaving room for interpretation, and ample space for the viewer to infuse their own ideas, emotions and stories into each piece. Much of his work involves capturing an “everyday scene” and, through his unique approach to photography, presenting it to the viewer in a new and creative way.
Artist Statement
I'm a storyteller at heart and I'm addicted to the power of story. I’m passionate about the written word, about many styles of music, and I absolutely love to travel. These things help me view life through a different lens. I also have a love/hate relationship with the process of writing, and I hope to eventually publish my own written work as well.
The desire for understanding is constantly rattling the cage around my heart and I try to challenge myself to see and experience life from different perspectives. I believe we all hold the power to change what’s right in front of us when we shift the way we see it. Ultimately, much of what my work is about just that… seeing life differently. Our world is at once as small as our perspectives, and as large as our imagination.
