Artist Statement
Touch is a critical aspect of my work. The brilliance and texture of the tile does not just invite viewers to brush their fingers over the crevices and curves, they demand it.
Born into a family of artists, I continue to soak up a vast array of imagery to incorporate into my high relief tile. The clay structure then allows me to emulate anything from marine life to iconic landmarks.
With over 20 years of experience, I realize that the subject matter is limitless. I try to reflect this in my work and how I visualize the world. I will often use natural and textured surfaces to complete work on the form.
It is a release when I create. I can accomplish my goals or simply express myself. Making Ceramic Corsets and Tile Sculpted Relief Murals allows me to be up to a challenge and work larger.
My custom tile work allows me to change the environment and make the entire room an art piece.
My next goal is to tell a story with my ceramic and tile work.
My parents worked large and used brilliant colors. This was a constant source of inspiration to me in my work. They are also a very important support element, along with my loving wife and kiddos.
Many different things inspire me, such as working with other artists and artisans on creating events and creative outlets and allow people an entirely new world of thought to express themselves. My motto: No limits!
